School Meals

Chartwells are our School Meal Provider serving hot lunches every day.  All hot meals, including universal infant free school meals and free school meals, need to be ordered in advance using your ParentPay account. For further information see the Chartwells School Meals document attached below.

All children in Early Years and Years 1 and 2 are entitled to lunch free of charge via the Universal Infant Free School Meal (UIFSM) scheme.

Free school meals (different to UIFSM) are provided for any child from Early Years to Year 6 whose parents are receiving Income Support. If you qualify please obtain the necessary form from the office (this is also attached below) - all enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The only requirements for packed lunches are that children do not bring glass bottles or cans to school, that they use a lunch box, not a plastic carrier bag, and do not have sweets as part of their lunch. We always encourage a well balanced lunch with an appropriate quantity of food (not too much, but enough to keep children going throughout the day). We appreciate parents/carers support with this.

Water

As part of our ‘Healthy Schools’ initiative, we ask you to provide your child with a bottle of fresh water each day so that they can access this at any time when in class. For lunchtime children can bring another bottle with either water or squash in (no fizzy drinks thank you).

Break-time Snacks

We encourage appropriately sized, healthy breaktime snacks. Crisps and sweets are strongly discouraged for morning break snacks as they are usually high in salt and sugar. The implications for health, and particularly dental health, are plain to see. In addition, crisp and sweet packets can cause a litter problem for us.

We participate in the Department of Health ‘School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme’, which provides children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 with a piece of fruit or vegetables each day to eat as a healthy snack. Parents/carers are, of course, welcome to provide children with an additional healthy snack.
